(ETX Daily Up) – Bluesky is not the only one to benefit from the closures of accounts on X which have multiplied since the election of Donald Trump. Some former users have turned to Threads, Meta’s platform. Since the beginning of November, 35 million new registrants have embarked on the adventure.
Since November 1, Threads, the Meta group’s platform designed to compete with X (formerly Twitter), has welcomed 35 million new users. This meteoric growth is partly explained by the departure of users from the platform run by Elon Musk.
Donald Trump’s victory, and the support provided by the tech industry mogul, pushed many users of the old Twitter to jump ship. The reasons given are multiple: unabashed racism, constant misogyny, disinformation and conspiracy, and cyber-harassment.
Internet users then turned to Bluesky, the social network created by the former co-founder of Twitter, Jack Dorsey. Since November 5, Bluesky has seen its audience increase significantly, now exceeding 20 million users.
Although Bluesky, which looks a lot like Twitter, is enjoying growing success in many countries, Threads has not said its last word. Adam Mosseri, CEO of Instagram, revealed on November 14 that more than 15 million new accounts have been created since the start of the month. According to Axios, 20 million other users have joined the adventure over the last eleven days. A trend observed for three months with the registration of a million people every day, according to Meta spokesperson Andy Stone.
According to the latest official statements from Mark Zuckerberg, the boss of Meta, Threads had more than 275 million monthly active users as of October 31. In July, after one year of existence, the platform had 175 million.
On X’s side, the situation is more vague. Elon Musk has decided to no longer disclose official figures regularly, but according to those responsible for X, the platform has more than 570 million monthly active users worldwide.
