Jeep confirms the arrival of a Cherokee replacement in 2025

  • This future hybrid crossover could also be offered in a 100% electric version.

  • We can also believe in a new name for this replacement for the Jeep Cherokee.

With the automobile industry mainly turning towards the utility and electrified format, it is reasonable to wonder if a brand like Jeep really has what it takes to compete with the more advanced divisions in this direction.

Yes, it is true to say that the Jeep Wrangler 4xe is enjoying success with fans of the icon who no longer want to spend so much money per year to power their legendary utility vehicle. But, apart from the addition of a Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe, without forgetting the new 4xe variant of the Gladiator, Jeep’s electrified offering is rather slim.

This makes this statement from Jeep CEO Antonio Filosa at the Los Angeles Auto Show even more compelling for those who are aiming for a model with a hybrid engine. The big man of the off-road brand has confirmed the arrival of a replacement for the Jeep Cherokee, whose production ceased in 2023.

Earlier in May, during the presentation of the Jeep Wagoneer S, the CEO declared that this future hybrid model would be a general public option, which reinforces the theory of a return of a vehicle with dimensions similar to those of the late Cherokee. However, it would be surprising if the Cherokee name were used again, the latter which has come under all kinds of criticism in recent years, while other commercial entities have dropped one or more names linked to the First Nations of the North American continent.

With the Wagoneer S on its way to market, not forgetting the more robust Jeep Recon, also 100% electric, the range of battery-powered utility vehicles is poised to expand more convincingly, but in the hybrid niche that attracts part of the audience, the manufacturer has nothing to offer.

It is with this in mind that this replacement for the Jeep Cherokee is part of the short-term future of the brand. The new model will be revealed and added to the range in 2025, which suggests the reuse of the group’s electric platform. Does Jeep plan to turn the Wagoneer S into a hybrid SUV? Unless this treatment is reserved for Recon?

We will know more in the coming weeks, but in the meantime, consumers can hope for a Jeep with a hybrid engine within a year.
