Sony is reportedly working on a PS5 portable console to compete with the Switch

It would still be a shame to leave the field open to Nintendo. We remind you that the Nintendo Switch has sold more than 146 million copies since its marketing in 2017, making it the third best-selling console of all time, just behind the Nintendo DS (154 million) and the PS2 (155 million). Nintendo's hegemony in the field of portable consoles is not new, but Sony decided to give it free rein after the disappointment of the PS Vita, which did not exceed 15 million copies in the total.

Sony thus gave up the fight for a decade, before finally seeing the light: it is true that the portable market is doing well. In addition to Nintendo and its Switch which is sold (still today) by the pallet, many third-party manufacturers have joined the fight: Valve with its Steam Deck, Asus with its ROG ALLY, Lenovo with its Legion GO… And meanwhile , Sony and Microsoft are watching all these little people fight without offering direct competition.

Sony is about to join the portable console market (again…)

This is a state of affairs about to change: we already know that Microsoft is working on the development of a portable console. But obviously, the American manufacturer is not the only one to look into a machine of this type: according to Bloomberg, Sony would also like to join the market. According to the serious American publication, Playstation would like to extend its influence by offering a portable console capable of launching PS5 games, in particular. It would therefore be a model independent of the PS5, capable of running home console games locally, without having to rely on the cloud or remote play (the PS Portal already fulfills this function) . However, the console is still in its infancy: according to sources consulted at Bloomberg, the project could take years to be marketed, and Sony can always decide not to go through with it in the event of a change of strategy.
