AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D and Ryzen 9 9900X3D: new leak puts an end to the rumor of increased 3D V-cache

Many rumors point to a CES 2025 for AMD’s Ryzen 9 9950X3D and Ryzen 9 9900X3D, completing the launch of the high-end Zen 5 desktop processors. A previous rumor had suggested that these two processors would feature ‘a 3D V-cache tile on both CCDs. Apparently this is not the case.

Famous X leaker @AnhPhuH claims that the Ryzen 9 9950X3D and Ryzen 9 9900X3D will have the same L3 cache as their last generation counterparts (Ryzen 7000). While the lack of additional cache is disappointing, it is almost certain that they will benefit from the inverted cache tile layout which will allow you to overclock your CPU. Ryzen 9 SKUs are generally more overclocking-friendly than their Ryzen 7 counterparts, and this should ideally apply to X3D parts as well.

The leaker adds that both CPUs will be released by the end of January 2025. Last time, the Ryzen 7 7800X3D outperformed its Ryzen 9 counterparts. Has AMD done anything to remedy this with the Ryzen 9 9950X3D and Ryzen 9 9900X3D? Only the future will tell us. On the other hand, the inglorious launch of Intel’s Arrow Lake-S means that AMD is practically competing with itself this generation.
