The Christmas holidays are coming, but Gmail won’t be giving any presents. This December 1, several thousand accounts will be deleted. Rest assured, it’s not too late to escape it.
Gmail is getting ready to do its traditional winter cleaning. All inactive accounts in the application will simply be deleted from the platform. A real cleaning that you can still escape, provided you follow the following tips.
From December 1st, all inactive profiles will be irreversibly deleted. The account and all its personal data on Google Workspace (Gmail, Docs, Drive, Meet, Calendar, Photos) will disappear on the deadline.
The application of such a measure, although brutal, is crucial for Google. This is a way for the American company to strengthen the security of its users. Abandoned accounts, which do not have the latest updates, are in fact more easily hacked by cyberattacks. Leaving these ghost profiles on the platform exposes them to the risk of having their personal information leaked.
Please note that Google business and education accounts, even if abandoned, will not be affected by the big winter cleaning.
There are several ways to save personal and private accounts before December 1st. Simple and effective, they will not take up your time and will allow you to save your data:
- Send an email in Gmail
- Do a Google search while logged into your account
- Watch a YouTube video while logged into your account
- Use Google Drive (by saving or deleting files)
- Install an app from Google Play Store
