a new range of cheaper carbon bikes, inaugurated by the Axxome road and the Graxx gravel

The Axxome GTS and Graxx GTS inaugurate a new, more economical manufacturing process for carbon frames at Origine Cycles, enabling us to offer more accessible versions of these bikes. Explanations.

In short:

  • The new range of GTS carbon frames from Origine Cycles allows the brand to offer two of its flagship bikes in less expensive versions.
  • The idea is to stay with high quality frames, while cutting back slightly on comfort and weight.
  • This allows Origine to display its Axxome GTS from €2,060 and its Graxx GTS from €2,126.

Origine Cycles, the manufacturer from Rouvignies near , announces the arrival of a brand new range of carbon bikes in its catalog, called GTS. The idea is very simple – and just as attractive –: take advantage of its know-how in the construction of high-end carbon frames from the GTR and GTO ranges to design more accessible bikes grouped under the GTS acronym.

You should know that Origin works its GTR bikes with UHM, for Ultra High Modulus, carbon fiber, while the bikes in the GTO range benefit from working with HM, High Modulus fiber. For the new GTS range, Origine did not see fit to degrade the quality level of the fiber used, and we therefore remain with HM fiber. However, by implementing manufacturing processes using simplified castings, the company is able to move away from frames with lower costs, enabling it to offer quality carbon frame bikes at a lower price.

90% of the performance of a GTO frame

Without going into the technical details of manufacturing, the molds of the Axxome and Graxx series 3 frames are reused, but with more basic counter-molds in the triangle tubes, which is partly compensated by specific draping work. fiber.

The goal of the game, for Origine, is to succeed in making this new GTS range coexist with its GTO range, by managing to promote its more accomplished work on the material in the case of the second, without denigrating the first. In short, the marketing department will have to play the balancing act, but in fact, the GTO range should provide greater comfort than this new GTS range which nevertheless benefits from the lightness and absorption/rigidity properties of the worked carbon fibers.

According to Origine, its objectives with the GTS range frames is to obtain bikes with performance equivalent to approximately 90% of that of the GTO frames, with a little less comfort, but performance and reliability maintained. Suffice to say that if the price is worth it, there are quite a few customers who could be tempted, especially given the current economic situation.

Two practical, two configurable bikes

Especially since as Origine explains, by opting for slightly larger tires, we can perfectly compensate for this small loss of comfort. Therefore, by going from a section of 28 to 30 mm on the Axxome road bike and from 35 to 38 mm on the Graxx gravel bike, we could almost erase the difference in comfort between a GTO frame and a GTS.

This will nevertheless make the assemblies a little heavier, knowing that the difference in weight between a GTO and GTS frame will be 8% for a road bike and 11% for gravel. And at this level, we cannot “cheat”.

As always at Origine, the configuration of your bike is a strong focus. The Axxome GTS and Graxx GTS can thus be configured by customers, who will be offered components and groups linked to the positioning of these bikes, focusing on a good performance/price ratio. The same goes for choosing your color and adapting your bike to your body shape.

And all this from €2,060 for the Axxome GTS M1 carbon road bike (8.8 kg), and €2,126 for the Graxx GTS M1 carbon gravel bike (9 kg). The assemblies go up to the Axxome GTS M5 Di2 in electronic Ultregra at €4701 and the Graxx GTS M7 Sram Rival XPLR AXS at €3463.
