Microsoft's flight simulation Flight Simulator 2024 has experienced disruption since its launch on Tuesday evening, with players facing long queues to access the game.
“We knew there was a lot of excitement about Flight Simulator 2024 but we clearly underestimated the scale of demand, which really overwhelmed our infrastructure”explained Jorg Neumann, the game's director, on Wednesday in a video posted on the title's official YouTube channel. “Too many users are trying to log in at the same time” were thus able to read many players when launching the game, a few hours after its release.
“Extremely negative” ratings
The oldest existing video game series, this version of Flight Simulator was produced by the Bordeaux studio Asobo, which had already taken care of the previous version in 2020. Its CEO, Sebastian Wloch, explained in this video that the server to which players connected at launch had found themselves “saturated”despite upstream tests having simulated “a simultaneous connection of 200,000 users”.
A sign of the players' annoyance, Flight Simulator 2024 posted an average of scores on Wednesday evening “extremely negative” on the Steam game sales platform, based on more than 3,500 reviews. On the game's X account, Microsoft ensures “working to resolve server issues” so that everything gets back to normal quickly.
