2024 is coming to an end. To symbolize this closing of the curtain, the Game Awards announced last night the nominees for the different categories of these video game “Oscars”. Astro Bot, Metaphor Re:Fantazio, Elden Ring: Shadow of the ErdTree or even Black Myth: Wukong, there are many video games to be contenders for different titles this year.
Game Awards: a ceremony amid controversy
Since 2014, the Game Awards have been synonymous with the conclusion of the video game year. On the program for this ceremony considered the “Oscars” of video games, global announcements such as release dates or game announcements. Enough to keep an audience who only asks one thing: to see the titles which leave with a or several trophies on hand, including at the conclusion of the show the game voted as the best of the year.
A tenth edition which will be held on December 12 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles and will be broadcast on different broadcast platforms. This tenth changes a rule of the game, namely: it is now possible to name a DLC, a remaster or a remake for your game of the year. A confirmation of what has already been seen in recent years with Resident Evil 4 or even Final Fantasy VII: Remake. But it is regarding DLC that this is a first, this type of content having been banned from the flagship category although it can play in other courses. As evidenced by, for example, The Witcher 3: Blood & Wine voted best RPG in 2016 and Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty best evolving game in 2023.
Something which has caused a lot of ink to be spilled and which should generate further reactions as the ceremony and the results approach.
