We now know the Apple TV as a compact decoder, the first version of which dates back to 2007. In the first years of its existence, however, very strong rumors circulated, according to which the small box would quickly evolve into a full-fledged television. And to our great surprise, here we are talking about it again today.
Let’s go back to 2009 for a moment, when the rumor surrounding an Apple smart TV was everywhere. It even appeared that these were much more than rumors, because our contacts at the time within the Apple brand did not hesitate to confirm the development of such a device – unofficially of course.
However, things turned out differently: just like the Apple Car, the self-driving car that Apple worked on for years, the ‘Apple TV with screen’ was finally abandoned. Or, better, put in the fridge!
‘Smart home hub’
According to Mark Gurman, the generally well-informed Apple expert at the Bloomberg news agency, ‘the firm ultimately comes back to the idea of releasing an Apple TV’. Whether and when this happens will depend on the success of Apple’s long-awaited ‘smart home hub’. This gadget, which should become a competitor to Google’s small Nest Hub screens, is also still at the rumor stage.
If such an Apple TV actually comes out, it won’t be for a few years at the earliest anyway. The question is what such a screen would bring to smart TVs from brands such as Samsung and LG, which often already include Apple technology and services, such as AirPlay, HomeKit, without forgetting the Apple TV+ streaming service.
Insiders therefore expect it to be a high-end (rather expensive) television, which will focus on very high image quality on the one hand and on even better integration on the other. push of Apple’s own ecosystem.
