The iPhone 17 Air (or Slim) would not only be thinner than the others, but it would also be the thinnest iPhone ever designed by Apple.
If the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 plus only measure 7.8 mm, they are not Apple’s thinnest. Indeed, in 2014, the Cupertino company managed to lower the thickness of its iPhone to 6.9 mm with the iPhone 6. A bar of 7 mm that we have never crossed since. Today, we are more around 8 mm at Apple.
But everything could change in 2025. As we have already said, Apple is preparing to slightly review its range by replacing its Plus version with an Air version, or Slim, it is still to be determined.
According to analyst specializing in the Apple universe, Jeff Pu (Haitong International Securities), this iPhone 17 Air would have a thickness of 6 mm. It would therefore not reach the finesse of the very latest iPad Pro M4 with controversial advertising, but would come close.
We have become accustomed to rather thick smartphones with rather straight lines in recent years. The iPhone 17 Air would bring a breath of fresh air to its field. We imagine that to gain 1.8 mm, Apple will either have to make concessions or upgrade its components.
We are thinking in particular of the battery. If it were to use a silicon-carbon model like Honor or Oppo, Apple would be able to reduce the size of its battery without loss of autonomy. To make matters worse, Apple’s battery supplier has this technology in its pipeline.
Jeff Pu adds that the iPhone 17s of 2025 should benefit from a (finally) revisited design, modifications to the photo lenses and also a reduction in the Dynamic Island pill.
