At the end of the year, the American magazine Time publishes a list of the 200 best innovations. In 2024, five Swiss inventions will be part of it.
Lightspray d’On
The Swiss shoe manufacturer On has developed a new spray this year. This allows the robotic arms to create a complete shoe surface in three minutes. With this time-saving method, hundreds of intermediate steps are eliminated. Shoe lacing also becomes superfluous.
The Time Magazine calls this process “next generation athletics”. The innovation is classified in the “fitness” category.
Roche’s vaginal self-sampling
The pharmaceutical group Roche scored points in the “Medical Care” category. He launched a self-sampling cervical cancer screening process. It is possible to take a sample yourself using a smear. This sample is then sent to a laboratory.
Carevix d’Aspivix
Another innovation is also worth noting in the “Medical Care” category. Vaud Medtech Aspivix has invented a more pleasant alternative to the IUD. Carevix works on the basis of aspiration.
“The sharp metal instrument (the IUD), similar to scissors and of medieval appearance, causes pain in almost 90% of patients. The Aspivix alternative significantly reduced pain and bleeding during IUD insertion.”

“A study published in the journal Nature showed that nine out of ten patients using the ARC-EX regained some strength or functionality. It also revealed that the treatment could be effective in patients whose injuries were several years old.”
Energy Vault EVx
The following innovation is part of the “Green Energy” category. The Ticino company Energy Vault has developed a gravity energy storage system. Massive blocks are lifted when there is sufficient energy, for example renewable, available.
When energy runs out, the blocks are released, which releases energy. According to the Time Magazinethis method can also be used independently of renewable energies.
