Here are the passwords most used by French Internet users

Better not to rush to choose a password. Indeed, according to NordPass, more than 75% of identified passwords can be guessed in less than a second, reports 01net. The manager created by NordVPN has just published the list of the 200 most common passwords in the world. To do this, he “examined and analyzed a 2.5 TB database extracted from various publicly accessible sources, including those on the dark web”.

There's no real surprise. Although it should be noted that “password”, the English translation of “password”, which was at the top of the ranking last year, comes in fourth position this year. In the first place of the passwords used we find “123456”. Note that this combination of numbers came “at the top of the rankings as the most common password 5 times out of 6”. A good reason to ban it forever. Number sequences are very present in the top 10, occupying six places. For the rest, there is “Qwerty1”, “Qwerty123” and “Secret”.

The trend is not the same in . “123456” and “123456789” are in the first two places but the combinations that are easy to compose with the keyboard take over with “azerty”, “qwerty123”, “qwerty1” and “azertyuiop”. Only one city appears in the top 20, it is “Marseille”. Two first names appear among the most used passwords in the last places in the top 20: “nicolas” and “camille”. We also find cute words like “doudou”, “loulou” in 8th and 9th positions, or even “chouchou” in 13th place. The essential “password” is in 18th place when its French equivalent is four places higher and “mypassphrase” is in 16th position. “Sun” is a step higher.

Minimum twelve characters

“After analyzing data collected over six years, we can say that people's password habits have not improved much,” notes NordPass. The service determined another problem. Insecure passwords are used in personal and professional settings. “40% of the passwords most used by individuals and business managers are the same,” says NordPass.

It is more than ever recommended to choose a password combining randomly placed numbers, letters, symbols and a minimum length of twelve characters. A password generator can make your job easier, and a password manager can help you remember it.
