meeting emperor penguins in Antarctica

In November and December 2025, PONANT will offer four exploration trips to meet emperor penguins in the Weddell Sea.

In a press release, PONANT emphasizes that this is an exceptional itinerary in Antarctica at this time of year and “a unique opportunity for travelers to observe polar species in full reproduction period, in their natural environment.

It is aboard the Commandant Charcot, a high-end polar exploration vessel, “the only one able to navigate to the heart of the Antarctic ice pack from the very beginning of November”, that the trips will be offered.

In a titanic setting of tabular icebergs and immense glaciers, Commander Charcot will set off to meet the emperor penguin, at the end of its reproduction cycle.

The big thrill: XXL polar activities

According to PONANT, the exploration of this prodigious universe will be an opportunity for travelers to learn about extraordinary activities, supervised by “specially qualified” staff.

Paddling between blocks of ice in a sea kayak, daring to take an invigorating polar dive and snowshoeing on the ice floe are just some of the activities that await guests on this exceptional trip.

About the trip, PONANT had this to say:

“One of the most iconic trips you can take! The Weddell Sea is the coldest in the world, always covered in ice. Thanks to Commander Charcot’s performance, we can arrive very early in the season and go and observe the famous emperor penguins up close, which we can only see during the winter, when they breed and raise their chicks on the ice floe. »
