Google announces availability of its video creation tool for Workspace users

Last April, Google introduced Google Vids, a new AI-powered video creation application for its Workspace office suite, ensuring: “Vids is your video, writing, production and editing assistant, all in one”. The company announced its availability to select Workspace subscribers last week.

Google Vids aims to make it simple to create videos for a variety of business uses, such as customer support, business updates, employee training, marketing, and project management. This tool offers an alternative to more complex video editing solutions, often requiring specific skills or significant budgets.

With AI-powered features from Gemini, Google Vids allows users to produce impactful videos in just a few steps.

“Help me create” generates an initial storyboard based on a simple text prompt and documents stored on Google Drive. The user chooses a style and Gemini suggests scenes, effects and scripts, which users can modify and enrich with stock media, animations, and a soundtrack.

Users can add a voiceover by choosing one of Gemini’s preset AI voices or by recording their own voice using a teleprompter.

It’s also possible to choose from predefined templates to create a video or adapt videos for various use cases, from meeting recaps to training materials.

Like other productivity tools like Docs, Sheets, and Slides, Vids includes a simple, intuitive interface, enabling real-time collaboration and secure project sharing from a browser. Employees can thus comment on and revise projects simultaneously, without leaving their usual work environment.

The app is available in the user’s local language for select editions of Google Workspace: Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Standard, Enterprise Plus, Essentials, Enterprise Essentials, and Education Plus. However, Google specifies that the AI features are only available in English at the moment.
