This acclaimed PS5 exclusive is positioned among the serious contenders for the title of Game of the Year 2024.

Who will be the next GOTY?

2024 is almost coming to an end, but the year is still far from over for gamers. There is still one very important event that everyone is looking forward to: les Game Awards. Like all other conventions, it is a key moment for publishers who take the opportunity to unveil certain big announcements, or show a little more about their future projects. We hope, for example, a little hello from Kojima and a release date for Death Stranding 2, and the same thing from Rockstar and GTA 6. However, the high point of this meeting remains the attribution of price and very popular “Game of the Year”, game of the year in French.

The ceremony also covers various categories, such as best acting, best narration and best vocal performance. The prizes are awarded by a jury of journalists and votes from the public. The question therefore remains: who will succeed Baldur's Gate 3? This PS5 exclusive, rated 18/20, in any case thinks it has a chance.

The little robot of the PS5

The mystery remains complete and no one can predict who will be the GOTH of this year. However, there are many candidates. There we find Metaphor: ReFantazio, an RPG from Atlus acclaimed for its gameplay and storytelling, although it is still a little niche; Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, a major title with impressive production, but which has not completely won over critics despite great fan support; Balatro, a roguelike card game with strong popularity thanks to its mobile version, but lacking narrative depth; or why not Silent Hill 2 (2024), a surprising remake which impressed with its technical quality, or even Dragon Age: The Veilguard, a return from BioWare which seduces with its narration but which faces divided criticism. You will have understood, the battle will be terrible for the publishers, but Astro Bot is not afraid and is even a very serious competitor.

Remember, Astro Bot is a 3D platform game developed by Team Asobi and released on September 6, 2024 on PlayStation 5. Suite of Astro's Playroom, it offers more than 80 levels spread across six galaxies. The player controls Astro, a robot, using the features of the DualSense controller, including controlling the Dual Speeder ship. With its fun gameplay and full of references, the PlayStation exclusive has managed to capture the hearts of almost 1.5 million playersas well as the JV editorial team which gave it an 18/20. However, as Polygon notes, Astro Bot will likely be nominated in the category “Best game for family”, a category that often has difficulty breaking through during the ceremony and reaching GOTY.
