The Ryzen 7 9800X3D already at the top of a CPU sales ranking dominated by AMD?

As tradition dictates, TechEpiphany shared CPU sales figures from the major German retailer Mindfactory for the past week. Here, we are talking about week 45, that is to say that of November 4 to 10. As always, these figures must be taken for what they are, namely limited to a single retailer and to the German market only. However, Mindfactory being one of the main and most popular resellers of PC components in Germany, it is always interesting to look into it. On the one hand, because these kinds of statistics are rarely shared elsewhere. On the other hand, because it allows you to get an idea of the general trend, at least for the European market. And then, there is reason to be curious about the figures for this period in particular, given that the official launch and marketing of the Ryzen 9800X3D takes place during this one! And all the more so since it very quickly disappeared from the shelves following the opening of sales on November 7…

So, how many units would the German retailer have sold, virtually in just four days (but in reality, probably in just a few hours)?

Mindfactory sales ranking week 45

Mindfactory week 44
1e Ryzen 7 9800X3D 980 pieces Ryzen 7 7800X3D 570 pieces
2e Ryzen 7 5700X3D 550 pieces (versions WOF + Tray) Ryzen 7 5700X3D 430 pieces
3e Ryzen 7 7800X3D 410 pieces Ryzen 5 7500F 240 pieces
4e Ryzen 5 7500F 280 pieces Ryzen 5 7600X3D 170 pieces
5e Ryzen 5 7600X3D 220 pieces Ryzen 5 7600X 120 pieces
6e Ryzen 5 7600X 140 pieces Ryzen 7 5700X 120 pieces
7e Ryzen 7 5700X 110 pieces Ryzen 7 7700 100 pieces
8e Ryzen 5 5600X 110 pieces Ryzen 7 5800X 100 pieces
9e Ryzen 7 9700X 110 pieces Ryzen 5 5600GT 100 pieces
10th Ryzen 7 7700X 100 pieces Ryzen 5 5600X 100 pieces

So it would have been a roaring start for 9800X3D! Note that the figure represents the minimum sales confirmed at launch. Actual sales (latest pre-orders included) may therefore be higher. In the meantime, 980 is still a strange number, we would almost come to believe that the count was stopped on purpose for the symbol. That this was also the initial stock of CPUs delivered to Mindfactory by AMD would only half surprise us… As an indication, 1860 pieces of Ryzen 7 7800X3D had passed in the week (14) when the processor was launched in April 2023. We can also notice that the top trio is now only composed of Ryzen with 3D V-Cache. Obviously, the 9800X3D tests also served as good advertisements for other Ryzen X3Ds. THE 5700X3D continues to impress with its sales, it has even exceeded the 7800X3Dwhich is not surprising, given that it is the ultimate upgrade for AM4 players, especially since the disappearance of the 5800X3D. As for the 7800X3D, it has a little less interest now than the 9800X3D – of which it shares the same socket AM5 – is “present”. The 7600X3D is not to be outdone and is part of the top 5! Moral of the story? Long live 3D V-Cache!

But where is Intel in all this? Far, very far. We must once again leave the top 20 to find the first CPU of the blues a little further down, and it is the Core i9-14900K… with 30 pieces sold. And what about the new Core Ultra 200s, which have been on the market since the end of October? Well, they are really at the bottom of the (long) list: the Core Ultra 5 245K with 5 sales and the Core Ultra 7 265K also with 5 sales! Catastrophic? Barely. We understand better why Intel is working to try to restore the image of Arrow Lake, which would have everything to gain and very clearly nothing to lose.

To complete all this, here is the distribution of sales and turnover between AMD and Intel. There is no surprise, given the success of Ryzen and Ryzen X3D in particular, it is AMD which represents the vast majority of the volume and CPU sales de Mindfactory :

Who did what week 45? AMD Intel
Sales volume 4245 pieces 395 pieces
% share of sales 91,49 % 8,51 %
Turnover 1 297 576 € 114 538 €
% share of turnover 91,89 % 8,11 %
Average sales price 306 € 290 €

Finally, by breaking down the sales volume by socket, this is what it looks like for last week:

Sales per socket AM4 AM5 LGA1700 LGA1200 LGA1151 LGA1851
Number of CPUs 1420 pieces 2825 pieces 355 pieces 20 pieces 10 pieces 10 pieces

And if not, what about Ryzen 7 9800X3D stocks? All LDLC group brands indicate web availability in more than 15 days. But Topachat specifically specifies availability around the 15th of this month. The CPU is not listed at Amazon.fr nor at Cdiscount for the moment. Across the Rhine, Mindfactory has reopened pre-orders by limiting purchases to a single piece per buyer and indicates delivery planned by the end of December 2024. In Switzerland, the Galaxus group still specifies an availability range from 11/14 as of 12/26. In short, the availability of the 9800X3D is obviously still a bit artistic blur at the moment. The processor is accessible via eBay, including from professional sellers, but at prices – excluding auctions – never below €700… Avoid! (Source: TechEpiphany)
