Graduating students in Management Techniques, Administrative Communications and Social Media from Cégep de Sorel-Tracy are organizing a new event entitled “The anti-depression race” on Saturday, November 23, at the Parc régional des Grèves in Sorel-Tracy. The start of the race will be at 10 a.m.
Organized as part of an academic project, this trail race aims to bring together the region’s community of running or walking enthusiasts around a common objective: to promote the benefits of physical activity on mental health. All funds collected will be donated to the Fondation du Cégep de Sorel-Tracy, which works for the support and well-being of students.
The Anti-Depression Run offers options for everyone: a 5 km run at a cost of $22 and a friendly 5 km walk at a cost of $12. In addition to enjoying snacks and a warm atmosphere, runners will have the opportunity to win participation prizes. A podium is also planned in the “runners” and “runners” categories.
From 8:30 a.m., participants will be able to collect their bibs on site. A group warm-up is scheduled for 9:30 a.m., then the start of the 5 km race will be at 10 a.m., while the start for the 5 km walk will take place at 10:05 a.m. The podium for the race will take place at 11 a.m.
“This is the first trail race in the region organized by students, it is still a significant challenge to coordinate this type of event. We are also very grateful for the support of the Parc régional des Grèves which hosts our event. It’s a great management and communication challenge, but we want to offer participants a friendly event that meets their expectations with a fiery atmosphere to counter the autumn gloom of November! » says Rosalie Bergeron, one of the co-organizers of the event.
The students are still looking for sponsorship from local businesses to enhance the participant experience. The main sponsor, Pür Détente et Spa, offers certain participants the chance to benefit from a thermal experience to counter fall melancholy.
Tickets are on sale for $12 for walkers (or $20 for two tickets) and $22 for runners (or $40 for two tickets). For details or to become a sponsor, go to the event’s Facebook page.
