Intel has looked into the performance variations noted during testing of the Intel Core Ultra 200 series, particularly when it comes to video games. Solutions are planned to remedy this.
Robert Hallock, Intel’s vice president for Customer AI and Technical Marketing, recently clarified the situation around the all-new Core Ultra 200S processors for our desktops. In an interview with Hot Hardware he specifies that Intel discovered that, in certain configurations, the performance obtained by critics differed significantly from the official data provided by Intel. Some reviews have notably noted memory latency issues, sometimes reaching more than 180 ns, well beyond the 80 ns anticipated by Intel.
Core Ultra 200S performance, multifactorial problems according to Intel
According to Hallock, these performance drops aren’t just about memory latency. They are the result of multiple factors, including aspects related to the operating system and BIOS. The launch of Arrow Lake therefore did not live up to expectations, prompting Intel to carry out an investigation to identify the reasons for these failures.
We don’t have specific details of the planned adjustments, but Intel appears to be leading work on some BIOS configurations and system settings. Updates to fix these issues are expected by the end of the month, or at the latest in early December.
