Recently, some Internet users in the Flers region (Orne) have been able to see photos of the sky lit up with stars and northern lights on the social networks. Among these creations, some are signed Alexis Barreaud.
This 24-year-old is passionate about astronomy and does not hesitate to share this angle of his life, so that “those who work and cannot stay up late can see the beautiful show of the night “, he said. Discover some of his precious photos.

A passion for science born as a teenager

This passionwas born in his childhood, then developed in his adolescence.

“I have always loved science,” says the science baccalaureate graduate. “It started at school, when I learned everything related to space conquest . »

While learning a little on YouTube, I saw some astronomy videos, which interested me. That’s when I decided to start cultivating myself in this area.

With his telescopebought a few years ago, Alexis walks around Flers at night to immortalize the appearance of the sky, when it is clear, without cloud or fog.

His favorite spots around Flers

Alexis Barreaud enjoys admiring the sky and photographing it in various places, but where he goes the most:

on the Saint-Paul football field (with the astronomy club);
around La Ferrière-aux-Étangs;
towards the chapel of Saint-Denis-de-Méré.

Member of the Flers club

It is alone, or with the local astronomy club, that he cultivates his passion. “The association allows me to learn even more, to push my knowledgeand to benefit from better quality material,” he explains.

He doesn’t mind going alone either: he describes himself as a “nocturnal person”.

Although he has no preference among the stars in the sky, Alexis enjoys taking photos of lune .

When it is beautiful, well lit, there are fewer stars. The best thing is to take advantage of the moon when it is not full. At the border between the visible and non-visible part, we can clearly see the reliefs of the craters with the play of light.

He gives some tips for capturing a beautiful photo of the stars: “With the phone it’s possible. Simply adjust the exposure time so that it is longer than the basic setting. »

Different types of night photos

What he also likes to do is circumpolar: these are long-take photos taken around the polar star, which remains fixed, while others give the impression of rotating around it (it is in reality the earth which rotates). Which creates beautiful shots.

Alexis is ready for every opportunity. If winter is always cloudier than summer, it is still possible to practice this activity in case of clear sky during this season.

Furthermore, it is also possible to observe the Northern Lights on certain nights. These phenomena remain relatively raresbut it’s possible: the last episode took place in October.

In the future, Alexis hopes to acquire more materialand take photos of ever higher quality.
