Sanwa Supply has launched a multi-function boombox for cassette tape enthusiasts, which combines retro and modern audio functions, as well as analog dials and control buttons.
One of the main retro features is the cassette player capable of playing tapes with playback frequency between 60 Hz and 10 kHz and recording range between 100 Hz and 10 kHz. Users can listen to the cassettes on the three-watt stereo speakers or on headphones plugged into the 3.5mm stereo jack.
After inserting an SD card or USB flash drive into the device, users can convert the cassettes into 128kbps 48kHz mono MP3 audio files. Owners can place their own MP3 files on flash memory devices or connect wirelessly via Bluetooth 5.3 from any smartphone or audio source to play them on the boombox. The boombox has an MP3 playback frequency range of 100 Hz to 10 kHz and a recording range of 125 Hz to 10 kHz.
Another retro feature is the AM/FM radio tuner capable of tuning into AM stations between 530 and 1600 kHz and FM stations between 76 and 108 MHz. An extendable FM radio antenna and internal AM rod antenna ensure clear reception.
The player can be powered by an AC power cord or four C-size batteries for approximately 50 hours in all modes. The boombox measures 34 x 12 x 8.25 cm (13.4 x 4.7 x 3.2 in.) and weighs 1.5 kg (3.3 lbs.).
The Sanwa Supply Multi-Function Boombox has an MSRP of 13,800 yen (~$90) and is available in black (400-MEDI050BK) and red (400-MEDI050R) from Sanwa Supply. Readers who want a much smaller player can get the FiiO CP13 Portable Cassette Player on Amazon.
