Sony has delayed the launch of the PlayStation 5 Pro in India as the telecom spectrum for Wi-Fi 7 is yet to be allocated in the country. The gaming console uses the 6 GHz frequency band for its IEEE 802.11be (Wi-Fi 7) certified network radios.
In an official statement https://highchaosrun.com/2024/11/08/ps5-pro-india-release-date-in-limbo-because-of-wifi-7/ shared with High Chaos Run, Sony confirmed that the “PS5 Pro will not be available in certain countries (including India) where the 6 GHz wireless band used in IEEE 802.11be (Wi-Fi 7) has not yet been authorized”
According to a report from Business Standard https://www.business-standard.com/industry/news/india-delays-6-ghz-spectrum-allocation-used-for-5g-and-wifi-services-124082300245_1.html , the Indian Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has postponed its decision on the allocation of the band and has until 2027 to make a final decision.
Sources who spoke to Financial Express ( ) indicate that India will reserve the frequency band for India for Financial Express, India will reserve the upper part of the band (6425-7125 MHz) for telecom operators for 5G and 6G services. The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) uses the network for satellite communications and has flagged potential interference issues if the band is allocated for telecommunications.
