Samsung brings Bixby back from oblivion to add generative AI: here are the new features planned

Forgotten since the advent of ChatGPT, Google Gemini and others, Bixby was for a time a strong commercial argument for selling Samsung phones. The Korean manufacturer is not finished with its personal assistant.

A smarter Bixby, would you like it? If you have never used Samsung phones, this sentence may seem incongruous to you.

Unveiled in 2017, Bixby was part of the great fashion for personal virtual assistants, alongside its peers, such as Siri and Google Assistant. Featured on Samsung smartphones, the program has slowly fallen into obscurity in recent years, as generative AI and other conversational agents such as ChatGPT have gained popularity.

However, Samsung has just announced important new features for its virtual assistant. As the manufacturer promised a few months ago, a smarter and more resourceful version of Bixby has just been announced in China. SamMobile. In this huge commercial market, the “new generation” Bixby wants to be familiar with current generative AI programs thanks to an injection of deep learning.

In China only

Concretely, the virtual assistant can now generate videos on the fly, build Word or Excel documents or understand the content displayed on the screen to respond appropriately to user requests. Nothing that other AI-powered virtual assistants can’t already do, but Samsung is obviously very proud to have its in-house program.

For the moment, this Bixby 3.0 is only available on the Galaxy W25 and W25 Flip, exclusive Chinese variants of the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6. No information regarding a possible international release of the new Bixby has yet leak. However, it is not forbidden to speculate.

An international arrival in One UI 7?

With its Galaxy AI software suite, Samsung has placed a significant emphasis on machine learning in recent months. And if the new Bixby seems to be a separate project, it’s a safe bet that the virtual assistant will begin its life internationally at the same time as One UI 7, the software overlay made in Samsung expected for early 2025.

To go further
It’s confirmed, Samsung Galaxy AI is free until the end of 2025… but what will happen after that?

It would indeed not be surprising if the new Bixby was presented as a serious competitor to Google Gemini and Apple Intelligence, Samsung not wanting to be overtaken by the Apple or to be tied hand and foot to Google and its well-deserved reputation for great software gravedigger.
