The Windows tablet that seeks the right compromise between its power and its price

This Chinese manufacturer is trying to find a compromise: after having marketed the V3, a powerful Windows tablet, here is a lighter version: the Minisforum V3 SE.

After the Minisforum V3, which we tested, the Chinese manufacturer returns with a revised model. The objective: to lower its price, because the V3 is sold for more than 1,000 euros.

The Minisforum V3 SE arrives on the market with an interesting promise: to offer the premium experience of its big sister at a more accessible price. It uses the same formula as the V3, a tablet running Windows 11.

The Chinese manufacturer has made different technical choices to reduce costs. Already, the transition from a Ryzen 7 8840U to a 7735U, with 8 Zen 3+ cores more than sufficient for office use.

The 14-inch screen goes to Full HD+ definition (1920 x 1200 pixels), it remains correct, still tactile obviously. Lowering the refresh rate to 60 Hz is not necessarily a mistake, especially since it helps optimize battery life. Besides, good news, the stylus support with 4096 pressure levels remains unchanged.

The tablet is only sold with 16 GB LPDDR5-6400 RAM. As for the storage, it is expandable up to 2 TB in NVMe PCIe.

The essential is preserved

Connectivity remains sufficient with two USB4 ports, VLink functionality (via a dedicated USB-C) for use as a secondary screen, and a MicroSDXC UHS-II card reader. Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 are also included.

An interesting technical detail concerns the 2 MP front webcam: it retains infrared facial recognition despite the absence of the NPU integrated into the Ryzen 7 8840U. Windows Hello doesn’t need NPU… but we knew that.

The slightly reduced weight (940 grams) and the move to Windows 11 in standard version (non-Pro) are not very significant changes that do not impact the daily experience.

The price could be around €700 including tax in Europe (based on the Chinese price of 4,499 yuan).
