CLike every year, Black Friday will take place on a Friday in November. This one-day commercial event which comes to us from the United States and Canada always takes place on the Friday following the Thanksgiving holiday, i.e. November 29, 2024.
The term Black Friday first appeared in 1960. It refers to the Friday after Thanksgiving, a day when Americans rush to stores to do their Christmas shopping. This is also the precise image we have of Black Friday: consumer hysteria taken to the extreme where crowds are ready to do anything to get the best deals. Hence the term Black Friday.
Today, Black Friday has become popular beyond American borders. It is no longer limited only to Friday since the entire weekend following Thanksgiving is dedicated to it. The Monday that follows now even has a specific name: Cyber Monday. A day which for some stores has even surpassed Black Friday in terms of sales. In short, so many expressions which are part of the winning marketing strategies of large companies and which are, for us, almost essential shopping days.
