All Freeboxes are updating: it's time to restart your box

The time has come to restart your Freebox's Server, either via the interface or by unplugging/replugging its power cable directly. For what ? But to update it of course. Since Tuesday November 5, approximately two months after the previous one, Free has deployed a patch numbered 4.8.16 on all versions, namely Ultra, Pop, Delta and Revolution. Enough to forget a little (or not at all) the recent cyberattack which targeted Free, stealing the information of its millions of customers.

Fixes and something new

This minor numbering indicates, unsurprisingly, that it is primarily a question of correcting a few bugs. Two of them are (or rather were) quite critical. Here is the list:

    • Fixed issues preventing Wi-Fi from working when waking up (Wi-Fi eco/sleep/Wi-Fi off)
    • Fixed loss of connectivity issues with repeaters connected via Ethernet
    • Fix cloud-init configuration issue when installing a virtual machine (VM)

There is, however, a little novelty to note. It concerns Guest Wi-Fi access. It is now possible to create guest Wi-Fi keys with no limit on the maximum number of users. Enough to create temporary Wi-Fi networks and invite as many people as you want, when the old limit was… 128. This addition will therefore certainly not concern everyone, but it has the merit of exist.

Devolo WiFi 6 Repeater 3000: read the review

The Devolo WiFi 6 Repeater 3000 repeater allows you to relay the wireless connection from the internet box provided by your operator or from your usual router in order to take WiFi to a place in the house that is too far away. Compatible with the latest Wifi 6 standard, it is equipped with an Ethernet port and plugs into an outlet and displays its status using an LED.
