Scheduled for this Thursday, November 7 exclusively on Nintendo Switch, the new RPG “Mario & Luigi: The Brotherly Epic” is receiving very mixed reviews from the specialized press.
Mario and his brother Luigi are finally back on Nintendo Switch. The two brothers find themselves, despite themselves, embarked on a new adventure in the world of Connexia to face multiple dangers. After several years without any new game in the “Mario and Luigi” series, Nintendo is offering a new opus coming this Thursday, November 7 exclusively on its Switch console.
The first tests of “Mario and Luigi: the brotherly epic” have been released and they turn out to be quite… Mixed. Discover our press review of Nintendo’s new RPG.
An adventure full of humor
The main good point that emerges from all the tests around “Mario and Luigi: the brotherly epic” comes from the humor of the game. The new adventures of the two Italian plumbers promise a “even funnier and more intense experience than before” according to the Gameblog test which also welcomes a real feeling of progression for the characters and combats which intensify as the game progresses and gives it a score of 8/10.
Le Monde also describes these adventures as punctuated by a “subtly stupid humor, gently cartoonish, always good-natured”. Journalist Corentin Benoit-Gonin also praises the character animations, but regrets that some fights are too much.
On the ActuGaming side, we are won over with the very nice score of 9/10 and a plethora of compliments around “Mario and Luigi: the brotherly epic”. The narration and humor seem very successful even if the tester notes an ending that drags on far too long.
Too much fighting and length
On the negative side and less enthusiastic tests, we find in particular Jeuxvideo.com which gives the game a harsh score of 14/20. Tester Charlanmhg believes in particular that the game lacks a real visual identity and that it suffers from real redundancy and length in its progress.
A feeling also shared by the MGG site where Lloyd, the tester, explains that “Mario and Luigi: the brotherly epic” is “too long for its own good”. There is also mention of FPS drops and very long loading times which harm the gaming experience.
Finally, the Presse Citron site also reports a mixed experience with a rating of 7/10. The test salutes rather successful fights, but also returns to a very generic artistic direction which lacks visual identity.
