The Services Aquatiques Haute-Côte Nord organization organized its first benefit event on October 27. It was a swim-a-thon which took place at the Berges des Bergeronnes multipurpose swimming pool.
This activity aimed to help HCN Aquatic Services continue their mission by offering courses at an affordable cost for the population, and invest in the renewal of equipment.
“The principle is to mobilize swimmers from the Haute-Côte-Nord to create a unifying event in order to raise as much funds as possible,” explains Manuela Voisine, director of the organization, in a press release.
For three hours, the swimmers took turns to cover as many lengths as possible. They were able to participate individually or as a team and swim as long as they wanted.
“The swimmers are sponsored during the event by their entourage or companies which finance the number of lengths completed,” explains Ms. Voisine.
For the first edition of the swim-a-thon, 30 swimmers of all ages participated for three hours. They completed 1,455 lengths, which raised $3,400.
HCN Aquatic Services Board President Claire Dubois was very grateful that people answered the call and highlighted the community’s sense of belonging.
For her part, the director of the organization was very touched by the involvement of the families who mobilized. “It was an extraordinary event, with swimmers of all ages, the youngest being 18 months! No pressure to perform, we swam in good spirits and everyone encouraged each other,” she says.
The objective was successfully achieved and the HCN Aquatic Services intend to organize a second edition next year.
The organization and production of the event were supported by several local and regional partners. The swimmers found many sponsors in addition to their entourage in local businesses.
Remember that HCN Aquatic Services activities take place at the multipurpose des Berges swimming pool from September to June.
