Saint-Eugène. The night hike brings together 230 walkers and 2 dogs

The night hike organized by the ACPV (Cultural Association on the Past of our Valleys), Saturday October 26, brought together two hundred and thirty walkers, young and old, and two dogs in the courtyard of the town hall-school of Saint-Eugène.

Canceled last year due to terrible weather conditions, the third edition saw a perfect alignment of the planets. A starry sky,

a pleasant night temperature and non-slushy paths.

At the stroke of 6 p.m., pawing with impatience, not to fight, but to discover the new 10km walking route mapped out

by the organizers, the participants were released at the exit of the courtyard in small successive groups according to the affinities of each person (family, friends, association, etc.). It took 1 hour to free all the walkers.

“A good invigorating meal”

After the aperitif served almost at the start of the route in a still rural setting and before the traditional pancakes kept well

warm under the courtyard of the Saint-Eugène school, “a good invigorating meal”, to quote a comment from a participant who came

from the southern tip of the Aisne, was served to walkers halfway.

10kg of zucchini, 12kg of carrots, 14kg of potatoes and 5 bunches of leeks for the soup; 10 liters of red wine, 20kg of carrots,

50kg of potatoes, 50 onions and 52kg of meat for the stew: This meal concocted since Thursday evening (the stew must cook three times)

by ACPV volunteers, served hot and at the table in the middle of a wood, had the right smell to attract a horde of wild boars.

“It’s moving over there!” » says a member, delicately stirring one of the pots of stew from which sunny flavors escape.

At the end of the hike and after a draw, more than forty participants left with a prize under their arms, in addition

a head full of memories.
