Intel Core Ultra 9 285K pushed to 7.4GHz in new overclocking record

While the Core Ultra 9 285K doesn’t offer much in terms of gaming performance, the CPU excels in some productivity workloads. It is also very easy to overclock. Elmor, a record-setting overclocker, pushed a Core Ultra 9 285K to 7.488 GHz just days after its launch.

He did it on an Asus ROG Maximus Z890 Apex motherboard with a 27-phase VRM and a liquid nitrogen pot apparently “designed with Diabatix’s generative AI technology.” In addition to a new clock speed record for Arrow Lake, overclockers also pushed the Core Ultra 9 285K to new limits on other synthetic benchmarks such as Cinebench and 3DMark.

Of course, this is a first record that will probably be broken in the months to come. That said, it might be difficult for Arrow Lake to catch up due to Intel’s focus on energy efficiency. Elmor pushed a pre-production Core i9-13900K to 8.82 GHz. The current world record is 9.117 GHz (Core i9-14900KS), which is, once again, held by Elmor.
