During its beautiful and long history, the editorial staff of Jeuxvideo.com (JV today) has not often awarded a score of 20/20… One of its titles blessed by the gods is now available on PS Plus .

Apart from a small slump at the time of God of War: Ascension, the adventures of Kratos have always been unanimously applauded by the press and players. This craze was born from the first part of the series on PS2. Already at the time, in 2005, Santa Monica Studio’s production hailed as a technical tour de forcecoupled with a fun action game of extraordinary proportions (on the scale of Mount Olympus, that’s no small thing). 5 years later, thanks to the power of the PS3, the technical tour de force turned into a real slap in the face on God of War 3, but we would have to wait until 2018 before Kratos returned with great fanfare.

A “reboot” that is not afraid of anything

Except this time, our hero who only knows “revenge” as the only word, has changed a lot. He is now a father, and has moved to a region ruled by Norse deities (no longer Greek). At the very beginning of this “reboot” – which is actually a sequel – Kratos must accept the death of his beloved Faye… With his son Atreus, he undertakes a journey to scatter the ashes of the deceased on the tip of the highest peak in 9 Kingdoms. A journey that will force her to get closer to her little one and relive her past demons.

Clearly, for the God of War of 2018, Santa Monica and Cory Barlog (director of the project) are not going with the back of the spoon. Alongside Kratos who must understand his role as a father, the gameplay and even the camera have undergone drastic changes… From now on: God of War is a third-person action game filmed in sequence. At the start of the adventure, Kratos cannot count on the help of the famous Blades of Chaos either. He now wields the Leviathan Axe, which has the power to freeze enemies, returning to its owner’s hand at any time.

A 20/20 available on PS Plus

In short, all this to say that God of War (2018) is an excellent action-adventure game served by fine and touching writing, serving as an incredible reinvention of the license. It’s something to do at least once in your life. That’s good, because the title is available in the Games Catalog of the Extra and Premium offer of PS Plus. It is also one of the few to claim a 20/20 rating on JV, alongside Zelda Wind Waker and Zelda Breath of the Wild.
