space outfits at the heart of haute couture creation

From the Space Age of Pierre Cardin and André Courrèges to Coperni’s bag of the future, space has often fascinated creators.

The partnership between Prada and Axiom Space is the first of its kind. The first to use the know-how of a luxury house, in terms of fabric, assembly, pattern making but also in terms of tailor-made, to dress men (and the first woman) on the moon. However, it is not the fault of fashion for having demonstrated its fascination and attraction for space. Since the early hours of the race for the stars, launched at the heart of the Cold War by the United States and the Soviet Union, many creators have been attracted by this new horizon. From the mid-1960s, Pierre Cardin and André Courrèges took the opposite approach to the haute couture of Dior and Balenciaga, their tutelary figures (Dior for Cardin and Balenciaga for Courrèges) by advocating ready-to-wear and a futuristic aesthetic.
