The French manufacturer Paperslate launches its large e-paper notepads

Who still wants to use deadwood when digital notepads are at hand? This niche market is accelerating, since the success of the first devices from reMarkable, which has just announced a new version with a color screen. Amazon launched this week, with the Kindle Scribe, and a new player, French this time, wants to make a place in the sun.

Paperslate takes care of the software

And with the two models presented today, Paperslate throws himself into the fray with some advantages. The Paperslate and Paperslate Pro feature a 10-inch monochrome screen (1600 x 1200, 200 ppi), a battery with a capacity of 3200 mAh for a week of use without recharging, a USB-C port, as well as a 4-core RK3566 chip and 2 GB of RAM.

2.4 and 5 GHz Wi-Fi is included, as well as Bluetooth 5.0. The Pro version stands out for the presence of a backlight system, IPX8 certification for water resistance and more comfortable storage space (64 GB, double that of the basic Paperslate). The device weighs 388 grams.

The notebooks come with a passive stylus (no need to recharge), which features an eraser and a configurable button. It supports 4,096 pressure levels. Paperslate has taken care of the software: the notebooks offer layers to apply to PDF documents, you can hide them, merge them or reorganize them according to your needs.

Paperslate also offers a unique “dual screen” display function, with the document on one side and the annotations on the other. In addition to the more traditional zoom, search engine and bookmarks, notepads also allow you to share a document by email or store them online on Google Drive.

These two devices designed by Michael and Ruben Dahan (Michael is the founder of Booken) have less impressive technical data sheets than the competition; The Kindle Scribe’s screen has a resolution of 300 ppi, and it has a battery life of 3 weeks. However, we are there in terms of price: the entry-level Paperslate costs €349.99, the Pro version €419.99 (the Kindle Scribe costs €430).
