Through different videos, Oppo officially unveiled ColorOS 15, its next update based on Android 15 which introduces many changes, including graphical improvements, artificial intelligence, and a reorganization of the user interface. The overlay adopts a different look with new icons and functions reminiscent of those of iOS, thus offering an improved experience which nevertheless raises the question of the inspiration behind these choices.

To provide greater fluidity, Oppo is introducing the Aurora and Tidal engines, reducing latency while increasing app responsiveness by 18%, as well as their installation speed by 26%, according to the manufacturer. In addition, the system includes dynamic cache management, intended to optimize the use of resources to avoid slowdowns.

ColorOS 15 also brings a new organization with the separation of the control center and the notifications pane, a change which recalls the shift that Samsung seems to be taking with One UI 7. The similarities do not stop there, since the interface offers a customizable lock screen, a function similar to Apple’s Dynamic Island, as well as a design of the XiaoBu assistant which features a light circle resembling Siri. These similarities with iOS 18 suggest that the Chinese company is targeting Apple aficionados.

Like most manufacturers, Oppo is banking on AI, particularly with XiaoBu, its conversational agent which would allow natural voice interactions and contextual searches. AI is further leveraged for image editing and task simplification, with instant translation, text summarization, and transcription of audio recordings.

ColorOS 15 will be preinstalled on the Oppo Find X8, which is scheduled to launch on October 24 in China. The Find will offer its OxygenOS 15 update in the international version of its OnePlus 13.
