End clap for Microsoft’s Surface Duo 2 phone

This foldable screen smartphone was launched with great fanfare by Microsoft in October 2021, at the same time as Windows 11. The hardware quickly won over: powerful, the phone came in a foldable format (book type) and had a very large surface area. comfortable to use.

But the company never seriously took care of the software part, which initially suffered from a system that was poorly suited to this type of screen. In fact, in three years, the Surface Duo 2 has only received one major Android update, with a move to the 12L version, despite a premium price of $1,500 upon release.

On Reddit, users noted the arrival of a 54 MB update for the security of the device. This is most likely the latter, because on the product lifecycle page we can read that technical support will end on October 21, a week from now.

This lack of support is all the more visible as announcements have multiplied since last fall around significantly longer supports, notably at Google and Samsung. Software maintenance of a device is finally becoming a commercial argument.
