Under his guise of spin offa “little game” based on a gimmick funny, in reality hides an excellent and true opus of the Zelda saga, worthy of the best 2D episodes of the series. And not just any one, since in this one we play (finally!) the eponymous princess! ????
Ok, we were able to control Zelda in some spin off (Hyrule Warriors…) or derivative games (Smash Bros)… But this is the first time in an important episode of the series. And not just any way: Zelda has her own gameplaywith his own powers, and it’s great!
It’s funny, Echoes of Wisdom takes a bit of the best of everything that has been done on Hyrule so far, whether in terms of the interface (BotW/TotK), the world map (A Link to the Past → comparative video!), of certain elements of gameplay annexes (kitchen), or monsters and characters which refer to the entire history of the license.
But it’s far from being a “déjà vu” game. On the contrary, the powers of Zelda & Tri bring immense freshness. The main new feature, echoes, is the possibility of copying objects or monsters already encountered previously. A platform too high? Hop I copy a trampoline and I jump on it. A pile of sand? Hop an enemy that blows wind.
The fights therefore resemble Pokémon, if it were in real time: we launch copies of enemies who will fight in our place. Be careful to choose carefully, you don’t have to do anything at all. ???? I don’t want to spoiler powers and other possibilities, but we will still find more classic combat phases. ????
Who says Zelda, says adventures, dungeons, puzzles… The game system allows you to be super creative in solutions. We surprise ourselves by finding tips that were not necessarily planned by the creators. But it’s not just anything either: the level design is sufficiently compartmentalized so that reflection is always required.
There are certain limits imposed, whether in the number of possible echoes, their “power”, or in the physics of the game, much more rudimentary than that of Tears of the Kingdom for example. This is not a bad thing, on the contrary, it creates a super different and complementary experience!
I’m going to stop there because the pleasure of discovery is important. ???? What you have to remember is that This is not a cheap Zeldait’s super cool, original, both nostalgic and innovative, with a real story and a good lifespan, no really, absolutely don’t hesitate to play it!
