While all Rockstar fans are impatiently awaiting new communication about GTA 6, it is a former developer of the star firm who is making his speculations. According to the latter, GTA 6 will be sold over ten years and has no competition to fear. Rockstar should therefore take its time to port the game to PC.
It’s already been 10 months since Rockstar lifted the veil on Grand Theft Auto VI by revealing the first artwork and the first trailer. While we are all impatiently awaiting a new time of communication with the broadcast of the first images and a second trailer, it is once again Obbe Vermeij who attracts our attention.
The former developer of Rockstar Games which has often distinguished itself on the networks with its juicy anecdotes offers us a little moment of reflection and hypothesis concerning the plans of the star firm concerning the PC release of GTA 6.
Officially, the game is still not announced, since Rockstar and Take Two have clarified that the next GTA is planned for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S only. However, everyone knows that the game will eventually be ported to this platform, as has always been the case with GTAs. The real question is when. Most Rockstar games (that were released on PC) arrived between 1 month and 15 months after their initial release on consoles. Max Payne 3 in 2012 was released almost at the same time. For GTA 4 et LA Noirethe wait was quite short with 8 and 6 months of delay.
Pour GTA 5PC players had to wait more than a year and a half, while Red Dead Redemption II was entitled to its port only a year after its release on PS4 and Xbox One. Since 2008, among Rockstar’s major games, only Midnight Club Los Angeles was not allowed to carry it. For its part, it was necessary to wait 13 years, but the first Red Dead Redemption will end up arriving at the end of the month and for the first time on this platform.
GTA 6 on PC not before 2027?
Concerning GTA 6, Obbe Vermeij announced on his Twitter account that he does not see the game coming out anytime soon. If the console versions are not postponed and they are released next year, in the fall of 2025, Obbe believes that Rockstar will take its time to release GTA 6 on PC. According to the latter, the porting would not arrive before 2027.
The argument proposed by Obbe is quite interesting. According to the latter, GTA 6 will be sold again over ten years. And it will clearly have no competition, whether on PC or consoles. Rockstar therefore has no interest in rushing and risking making a failed port that is not optimized. Obbe is therefore planning a release for 2027 of this ultimate version.
Of course, this is all just speculation, coming from a former Rockstar member who knows how things work internally. However, it’s been almost fifteen years since Obbe Vermeij was part of Rockstar. So, this remains to be taken with a grain of salt and we already hope, initially, that the console version planned for fall 2025 will not be postponed. To be continued!
