Kaspersky app removed from Android Play store

Antivirus app Kaspersky is removed after being banned in the United States. It also seems to have disappeared in our country.

You will no longer find the official Android app for Kaspersky Antivirus in the Play Store. This adjustment apparently comes after the security firm’s software was banned in the United States. The Biden administration blacklisted the firm in June this year, saying it had ties to the Russian government and therefore posed a threat to national security.

US users are no longer allowed to purchase software from Kaspersky, nor is the company allowed to release updates, which are essential for security software. As a solution, the company last month replaced all of its PC installations in the United States with software from a lesser-known American company.

Now, the mobile app has disappeared for Android users. Strikingly, the app also appears to have been removed from international app stores. During a brief test, we could no longer find the app in the Belgian Play Store. The antivirus, however, still seems to be available in the Apple App Store.

Kaspersky says in a post on its support forum that it is investigating the issue. In a press release addressed to TechRadar, the firm announces that Google has interpreted the ban too broadly. The security firm directs users who want to download the app to alternative app stores such as the Galaxy Store, Huawei AppGallery, Xiaomi GetApps and its own website.
