This is an entry-level zoom that offers rather wide-angle coverage, ranging from 18 mm, for a wide field of vision, to 40 mm for perspectives closer to human vision.

In terms of focal aperture, the lens is not very bright, offering only an aperture of f/4.5 at wide angle and f/6.3 at full zoom.

A very compact lens

Above all, the Lumix lens is particularly compact with a weight of 155 grams and a length of 40.9 mm. Enough to make it an optic particularly suited to the small Lumix S9.

On the optical design side, the Lumix S 18-40mm F4.5-6.3 is made up of eight elements divided into seven groups with three aspherical elements, two ED elements and one UHR lens. The lens allows focusing at 15 cm at wide angle, up to a focal length of 21 mm, and 35 cm at full zoom. Enough to allow a maximum magnification of x0.28.

Price and availability of the Lumix S 18-40mm F4.5-6.3

The Lumix S 18-40mm F4.5-6.3 lens will be available at the beginning of November alone at a price of 579 euros. It will also be integrated by Panasonic into various kits.
