Cruise passengers hide bath ducks in their luggage

A new phenomenon is all the rage on liners. Passengers stash rubber ducks for others to find. It’s a kind of treasure hunt.

According to the New York Post, it all started with a simple game in which a little girl, Abby Davis, hid bath ducks on a boat. The first videos appeared on YouTube and in Facebook groups where Internet users exchange advice on the best hiding places on board. The popularity of this game is such that some people fill their hand luggage with plastic ducks which will be resold for the equivalent of 25 francs each on board.

“Our goal is to see how far our ducks will be able to travel and where the journey will take them,” explains the Cruising Ducks group on its Facebook page. While one Reddit user says he paid extra for a carry-on bag containing ducks, another specially 3D printed ducks with the logo of the Royal Caribbean cruise line in an effort to stash them.

The production of this plastic waste irritates Internet users. Companies, too, disapprove of this practice. For example, Disney Cruise Line changed its policy: “Guests may not conceal items, such as rubber ducks, in staterooms or public areas.” We’re not here to laugh.
