Google is starting to deploy very useful functions in the event of your smartphone being stolen

They were announced during Google I/O 2024, which certainly focused largely on artificial intelligence, but also made it possible to discuss new features in the world of Android: “anti-theft” features. were destined to appear on smartphones equipped with the American firm’s operating system. They are currently being deployed, since Mishaal Rahman, who officiates on Android Authorityindicates having received them on his own smartphone, like some users of the social network Reddit.

Concretely, the anti-theft features dedicated to Android smartphones are divided into various features dedicated to their protection. The first of them, called “Theft Detection Lock”relies on both motion detection using sensors integrated into the device and its wifi connections, all analyzed by AI. There is also an option called “Offline Device Lock”which is responsible for automatically locking the terminal when it notices that the connection to the mobile network has been deactivated; a tool to be used with caution for those who rarely use their device.

These functions, currently being deployed, are not yet available on the models present at the time of writing. Digitalbut Google promises their availability on devices equipped with Android 10 or later, which is the majority of devices in circulation to date.

Beyond Find my Device

Let us point out that Google’s efforts to secure terminals in the event of theft or loss do not stop there, since we find the Find My Device function (Locate my device in French), which allows you to remotely block a mobile stolen or lost.
