IA: Associations call for measures to better sanction sexist content

Used in several fields and both professionally and personally, artificial intelligence can be a very practical tool, but can also be misused by creating abuses, such as deep-fake and sexist content.

Faced with the proliferation of this dangerous content, more than 25 associations decided to put pen to paper and write a letter addressed to the leaders of Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, demand the implementation of concrete measures to protect women and the LGBT+ community from the abuses of artificial intelligence.

90% of victims of AI abuse are women

The associations want to highlight a key figure: at least 90% of the victims of this content created without their knowledge are women. These contents “silence us online, violate our right to control our own image and distort our elections”recalls Jenna Sherman, of the American feminist organization UltraViolet, signatory of the letter.

“Social networks must take action now to make sure everyone feels safe online », adds Leanna Garfield, from the signatory association GLAAD.

A reference to the surge of sexist content and false allegations experienced by Kamala Harris, Democratic candidate in the American presidential election, since her entry into the race for the White House.

What do these associations actually offer?

To counter these abuses, the collective of associations presents a dozen measures, such as the implementation of a third-party tool for detecting content generated by artificial intelligence, the suspension of repeat offender accounts or even internal audits to evaluate the fight against this harmful content.
