Oura’s new smart ring solves some of my biggest problems with the latest

The Oura Ring 4 offers a new design, better app, and improved detection – fixing some of our biggest gripes with the latest model.

The latest fitness tracker craze seems to be smart rings. They’ve been around for a while now, but this year things have become a little more mainstream thanks to Samsung’s launch of the Galaxy Ring. Oura was the first to make one, however, and now the brand is back with a brand new device.

Oura Ring 4 is Oura’s first new smart ring in four years. It has a refined design, updated sensors, and a redesigned app to accompany it. On paper, it’s supposed to resolve some of our biggest gripes with the previous one.
Inside, the ring’s health tracking sensors have increased in level. Oura claims it now conforms better to the unique shape of your finger, providing more accurate data, day or night, without sacrificing comfort in the process. The most obvious difference is in the design. Oura’s Ring 4 is still made from lightweight titanium, but with a sleeker, slimmer profile and recessed sensors
It’s also available in a rainbow of six colors, from brushed silver to the new glossy black. Best of all, they’ve increased the sizes to twelve different options, so if you have a hard-to-fit finger, this should be right up your alley.
Smart Sensing is the buzzword, with which Oura hopes to attract your attention. It aims to improve the way sensors work with your body, claiming a 30% increase in the accuracy of blood oxygen measurement overnight and 15% better results for breathing disorders. It also reduces gaps in heart rate tracking, which irked me with the last generation.

Alongside the new ring is a redesigned Oura app, with the promise of a clearer, more personalized view of your health. The app lets you explore things like daily stress levels, heart health, and women’s health indicators. Plus, it always connects the dots between how your current habits will affect you in the long run. Oura offers the most comprehensive look at your health, but hopefully Ring 4 will make it easier for you to dive into the numbers (early screenshots make it seem that way).
