Qualcomm will officially launch the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 at the Snapdragon Summit event scheduled for October 21, and the Xiaomi 15 series is expected to be one of the first to feature this next-generation SoC. MediaTek, for its part, will announce its Dimensity 9400 a little earlier, on October 9, and the Vivo X200 series will be one of the first to be equipped with it.
While many reports have already come out about the performance of these two new SoCs, Vivo product manager Han Boxiao has shared some additional information. Han explains that he has experience with 12 generations of mobile SoCs. So far, the Vivo official has seen a performance increase of around 15% from one generation to the next.
Of course, Han mentions that he’s already seen a performance gain of around 25%, but he clarifies that this is a rare case. As for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 and Dimensity 9400, the Vivo official says the performance increase from one generation to the next is more than 40%, and this is the highest Han has never seen.
Han further explains that this level of performance is about the same as what you would get with two typical generational upgrades. The Vivo official adds that the two next-generation flagship SoCs will create a very significant gap between mid-range smartphones, which doesn’t happen often.
So the Vivo official claims that the flagship phones that will be released in October and after will be worth upgrading. Han Boxiao, however, did not give concrete details on the price increase of the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 and Dimensity 9400 smartphones.
According to recent reports, both flagship SoCs have seen a price increase of around 20% due to the expensive nature of the N3E process. It’s worth noting that the Dimensity 9400 would be cheaper than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, which could make phones powered by MediaTek’s new SoC a bit more affordable than those powered by Qualcomm’s new flagship chip.
