Compared to the WF-C500s marketed three years ago, the WF-C510s stand out with improved ergonomics. The Japanese manufacturer has gone even further by signing the smallest model in its history. With a revised shape and a weight reduced to 4.6 g per earphone, the WF-C510 can actually be worn without discomfort for several hours.
Not very intrusive, they slide easily into the ear canal, while providing good support. In this they stand out from the WF-1000XM5 which, for the benefit of sound performance, have difficulty being forgotten once lodged in the ears. We still advise you to try the different sizes of tips provided (S, M and L) to obtain the best feeling of comfort.
Suitable for outdoor use, the WF-C510 benefits from IPX4 certification which effectively protects them against rain. However, no resistance to perspiration is mentioned by the manufacturer. We therefore do not recommend them for sports practice, despite the excellent support they provide.
If comfort is one of the main assets of these Sony headphones, their shells are made of poor quality plastic and have some assembly marks. They nevertheless demonstrate a certain solidity which will allow them, we hope, to last over time.
Housing
The WF-C510’s charging case is thinner than that of their predecessors. We also notice flattened upper and side faces, as well as the abandonment of the transparent cover revealing the headphones. This new design is quite ordinary, but it improves the grip a little. You can therefore slip or retrieve the case more easily in your pocket.
Opening the lid with one hand, however, remains difficult due to particularly rigid hinges. Solid and showing no play, they are nevertheless capable of withstanding a great deal of handling. Like the earpieces, the case uses the unpremium satin black plastic of the old model. This light quality is notably proven by a fairly perceptible resonance when tapped on it.
