Images of the double solar flare, the Northern Lights soon in the sky?

A big sunburn in space. NASA has captured a double solar flare in recent days. “NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory, which continuously observes the Sun, captured an image of the event”she indicates (new window) (see video at the top of this article). An eruption so large that radio communications, power grids and GPS signals passing through space were temporarily jammed.

This type of phenomenon, which is not so rare, is a harbinger of the Northern Lights. These could appear in the Earth’s sky next night. Will they be visible in France? Nothing is certain. If they are indeed caused by solar flares, the northern lights remain rare at low latitudes, such as in France, where they are only observable approximately every ten years, provided that the solar flare is sufficiently strong and oriented in the good direction.
