Garmin does not plan to enter the connected ring market, here is why

With Samsung and its Galaxy Ring, connected rings have come to the forefront. However, although competition is now intensifying and even Apple is considering it, Garmin is not at all convinced by this market.

During the Garmin Health Summit in September 2024, the sports smartwatch specialist explained why through Joe Schrick, vice president of fitness, and Scott Burgett, senior director of health engineering at Garmin.

Relayed by Pulse, the two leaders first highlighted the unreliability of the information collected by connected rings, an area in which the company is recognized with its tocantes. “The fidelity of data on the wrist is higher than that of a ring, because we can integrate more power, LEDs, sensors and autonomy into a watch”underlines Joe Schrick.

He added in passing that he was quite skeptical about the effectiveness of these devices for measuring daily activity and performance. “The advantage of the ring is comfort, but it stops there. Tracking your activity all day with a ring can be a big compromise, whereas a watch offers more reliable data and performance.”analyzes the vice-president of fitness at Garmin.

Words in the vein of the brand, which appeals to athletes looking for reliable and precise information about their training. Garmin therefore does not wish to compromise these elements that make its reputation by launching into the connected rings market.
