Connected rings: what models are already available?

This year we saw the arrival of the Samsung Galaxy Ring, but also the Helio Ring from the Chinese manufacturer Amazfit, usually specializing in sports watches. Enough to give ideas to Garmin, market leader in sports watches? Not really.

During the Garmin Health Summit event held last week in Prague, the site Wareable had the opportunity to discuss the subject with two Garmin executives: Joe Schrik (president of fitness) and Scott Burgett (head of health engineering).

Connected rings still too unreliable compared to watches

For the two managers of the American brand, connected rings are still too unreliable compared to what watches can offer in terms of data precision:

The reliability of data on the wrist is better because you have more power, more LEDs, more sensors, more autonomy. […] If you look at the data collected all day by a ring, or try to track your activity, there are big compromises and you might go backwards.

Garmin officials, however, admit certain advantages to health rings compared to connected watches, particularly regarding comfort.

However, this is not enough in Garmin’s eyes to develop its own connected ring given its customers’ expectations in terms of data reliability.
