Heritage in the spotlight at Nuits de la lecture 2025

The Nights of Reading fall again on from January 23 to 26, 2025. This 9e edition will focus on the theme of heritage, tangible or intangible. It will refer to the literature of the intimate, the family heritage transmitted from generation to generation by ancestors, but also the common and collective heritage which is measured on the scale of a territory, a nation and even the ‘humanity.

Big names and cult works will be highlighted during this edition to recall their role in contemporary creation. These nights aim to share with the public the rich French literary heritage through meetings and activities in the most famous historical and emblematic monuments of France, in libraries, in bookstores, in schools, museums, and other cultural places in France, also an integral part of the nation’s heritage.

8,500 events last year

There will be thousands of events scheduled throughout the territory, like the previous edition with its 8,500 events in 4,000 different locations. Registrations are open online for all book stakeholders wishing to propose their event. A collection of classic and contemporary texts on the theme of heritage will be produced by the CNL, as well as a bibliography of around fifty titles around the subject of this 9e edition.

Created in 2017 by the Ministry of Culture, Les Nuits de la lecture are now organized by the CNL for the fourth consecutive year. More information to come at the end of the year on the various activities put in place.
