The mandibular orthosis at €79

It looks like a toy denture. Before trying it on, you must leave the prosthesis in water to soften it and then bite it to shape it to your mouth. “It’s a ready-to-wear prosthesis but you can also make a tailor-made one,” explains our ENT.

“The principle of the mandibular orthosis is to advance the mandible and therefore free up space for the soft palate which notably includes the uvula. It is effective but only if you have few apneas and snoring that is not too loud.

The anti-snoring spray for €15.

Good news, this type of spray slightly improves the passage of air through the nose. The problem continues Philippe Rombaux, “is that the nose is only involved in a small percentage of respiratory abnormalities during sleep. We have done a lot of studies on these sprays but in the end, they are not very effective.”

The nose retractor for €18

The device looks like a nose clip but is placed inside the nostril. “It’s a nasal dilator that will push the cartilage outwards. This is only useful if you have a cartilage abnormality in that area. Another problem is that the device often falls off during the night.
