The Federal Office for Cybersecurity informs about deepfakes and other AI scams

The Federal Office for Cybersecurity (OFCS) is participating in “European Cybersecurity Month”, focusing among other things on the dangers linked to AI-generated fake voices and deepfake videos.

AI is also popular among cybercriminals. An awareness campaign by the Swiss Federal Office for Cybersecurity (OFSC), with the slogan “Think Before U Click!”, focuses on how cybercriminals use AI to trap their victims. The campaign takes place within the framework of the “European Cybersecurity Month”. The campaign focuses on the manipulation tactics of online scammers.

The OFCS message focuses on social engineering attacks. In its overview, the authority cites some examples of how cybercrooks can pretend to be someone else using AI. “AI helps them write seemingly authentic emails, imitate voices or falsify images,” says the OFCS.

In extreme cases, cybercriminals combine all of these elements to create a deepfake video. For the ECSM campaign, OFCS and its partners want to present a short video showing how cybercriminals can easily create deepfakes. An explanatory video specially designed for the elderly and additional information will also be available on the OFCS website, the press release specifies. The target group-specific content was developed by the authority together with the partner organizations Youth and Media and Ralph Landolt of Seniorweb.ch. The Federal Office will also host a virtual lunch on October 22, which can be registered here. The campaign will last until October 31.
